Worship and music have had a close relationship in all the history of
the Christian church. Every great period of revival has involved the use
of music to speak the message to the people. The choir is an extension
of the congregation, not an isolated group of performers. Their good
singing, as representatives of the congregation, is the result of hard
and consistent work to praise God with worthy music, well done. One
bishop has said, "The choir is doing what every member of the
congregation would do if he had the talent and the time to do it."
As a volunteer organization, we depend on people with ordinary musical
abilities who are dedicated to this most extraordinary form of worship.
The
Music Ministry offers activities for all ages and levels of ability.
These are un-auditioned choirs, and it is our hope that you will
want to participate in one or more of the choirs at South Roanoke, and
that you will consider this your invitation to do so.

THE
CHANCEL CHOIR:
Our dedicated adult choir, one in which our church takes pride,
is a volunteer group which leads our congregation in the morning worship
hour through music.
For special seasonal emphasis the choir presents large choral
programs - usually with instruments.
The Chancel Choir is an un-auditioned choir that views its
mission as one of service to God through the leading and representing of
the congregation in musical praise and prayer.
We rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 PM.
There is unlimited opportunity for those interested in trios,
quartets, etc. to form and participate in such groups.

CHERUB
CHOIR:
(children ages 3 through kindergarten) and HOSANNA CHOIR (grades
1 - 5): All children are invited to participate in
these choirs where they learn the joys of singing and have the opportunity
to participate in worship. They meet on Sundays at 9:15 AM as part of
their Sunday School time..
HANDBELLS:
The handbell groups are an important part of our music ministry.
These groups are open to those interested in ringing and willing
to pledge themselves to faithful attendance in rehearsal and
performance.
Though music reading ability is not a requirement, you must be
willing to do the extra work of learning musical notation in conjunction
with ringing.
Each group rehearses at a time convenient for those
participating. Available for youth and adults.
(Children receive handbell training in their choir time.)
All of the above choirs participate periodically in the morning worship
service.
Additionally, all of the groups work on special works for
presentation in worship or on the stage in the fellowship hall.
