ANNOUNCEMENTS


WELCOME! We're glad to have all who have joined us for this time of worship. Especially to our guests and visitors, we welcome you to South Roanoke and to our fellowship. We invite those who have no church home to make South Roanoke your church and add your witness to ours. 

THE DEADLINE for articles for the September issue of the Tower Times is August 15. Send articles to Kate Garrett or email to kgarrett@benefitsmanagement.com. Articles can be sent at any time prior to the deadline. 

AVAILABLE IN THE NARTHEX: The May/June Upper Room, large print United Methodist Hymnals, individual hearing enhancement equipment, and children’s bulletins (ages 3-12). Please ask an usher to assist you. 

THE AFTERCARE SOCIAL CLUB will meet on Tuesday, June 3 for a picnic at the zoo.  If you would like more information regarding our Social Club please call bonnie dayton, 981-0237. 

THE CONGREGATION expresses sympathy and concern to Betsy Moran and family in the recent death of  Betsy’s uncle, Glenn Haigler of Lenoir, NC who was 93. 

YOUTH FOR HIRE: It is time to call the youth for those spring cleaning projects. They will work on weekends through June 30th. Please call 344-4437, ext. 16 to reserve a time. 

DING AND DINE: Interested in playing handbells?? Even if you just might be interested, we hope you will join your SRUMC handbell ringers for lunch on Sunday, June 8, immediately following the worship service. We would love to show you how much fun we have and teach a few of the basics of bells. Our ringers are ready to welcome some new members and help you learn all about bells this summer. We hope to have a full choir ready to ring this fall. Babysitting will be provided if needed. Please call Dawn Long, 989-2837, if you plan to come for Ding and Dine! 

FELLOWSHIP ON THE FIFTH! On June 29th (a fifth Sunday) come to the fellowship hall at 9:15 a.m. when all Sunday school classes will gather for fellowship.

BLOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS! This past Tuesday SRUMC sponsored a blood drive in our fellowship hall. We collected 22 units of blood, and 2 of those were first time donors. A BIG thank you goes out to all of the donors, to all of our volunteers who prepared food, served food, were greeters, and who were donor aides. It would not have been such a success without your help. THANK YOU!!!! 

TEACHERS ARE NEEDED for the preschool and elementary Sunday school classes for the summer. If you can help even one Sunday, please call Lee Anne Steffe, 344-4477. 

SENIOR DINNER will be June 8th at 6:30 p.m. for all of our graduating seniors and their families. We will have dinner at the church. Plan to be with us until 8:00 p.m. Call Paula at 344-4437 ext. 16 by June 5th with your count. 

YOU ARE INVITED to contribute to hurricane (Virginia and Southern US states) and cyclone (Myanmar), and earthquake (China) victims through South Roanoke UMC. Your donations will be directed to these victims of these recent disasters.  Just make your check payable to SRUMC and earmark it “disaster relief”. Our Missions Committee has authorized expenditure of one-half of our “National Needs Response” ($250 for tornado relief), and “World Needs Response” ($250 for cyclone relief in response). Offering received to date: $455.00. 

“LEGAL AND FINANCIAL PLANNING ISSUES FOR PERSONS OF FAITH”. This final session of our University of Faith Series will be led by Bill Wallace, Attorney at Law, and Gary Duerk, CPA with “Port Folio Management of the South Roanoke United Methodist Church Endowment” and the use of charitable remainder trusts in estate planning. Simple meal served 5:30-6:30 with session at 6:30 p.m. ($3.50 per person, $10.00 per family). We thank our University of Faith Committee (John and Ruth DeVerter, Becky Austin) and Bill Wallace for their leadership in preparing this series.

Wimmer Class
(Senior Adult) - The International Lesson Series in the Wimmer Room.
Wesley Class (
All Ages) - Study and Fellowship—”Faith Sharing” led by Rev. Bill Davidson (Wesley Room).
Aldersgate Class
(Middle Adult) is reading and discussing A Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. Anyone is welcome to join.
Pathfinders Class
(Young Adult) is currently discussion Christian Relationship as our topic of study. This course of study will continue through February. The areas of focus include: communication, healthy conflict, respect and overall influences of religion on relationships. The Pathfinders are also focusing on increasing attendance to Sunday School for good discussions and fellowship.

CHILDREN’S CHOIRS

Children’s Choirs meet on Sundays at the start of Sunday school. The Cherub and Hosanna Choirs meet every Sunday morning from September-June. Cherub Choir is for children ages 3 years to 5 years old and Hosanna is for K-5th grade. The next time the children will sing for Sunday worship service is February 17th at 10:30 a.m. Mark your calendars now for Children’s Sunday on April 29th.The children will lead worship that day.
