The Pastor’s Message

Worship Times

Our Sunday worship is at
9:00 and 11:00 AM.

Sunday School is at 9:45 AM.

Important upcoming dates:

Rally Day

Mark September 11 on your calendar as the day we kick-off our fall programs. Join us for a day of worship, food, fun and games, and the beginning of our programs.

Homecoming

September 18th, we welcome our new District Superintendent, Rev. Steve Hundley as preacher, followed by Dinner-on-the-Lawn.

As the Virginia Annual Conference concludes on June 15 and Bishop Charlene Kammerer appoints me to my third year here at South Roanoke I give thanks to God for the grace given us in our ministry together.  In my first two years we have sought to discern together the vision and mission to which we are particularly called in this time and in this place.  I want you to know what a privilege it is to serve a congregation who understands its mission so clearly:  As Christ cares, we care.  I am especially encouraged by the “Priorities for Ministry” that we have set before us.  As you know, from these priorities I discern a congregation intent upon growing in discipleship.  To that end I am committing the focus of my pastoral leadership.

In seeking to live out this mission I pledge again to you my energy, spirit, and love that God may lead us to the fulfillment of the calling we serve.

May God bless you this summer as you may find time for renewal and refreshment of your spirit.  Travel safely and return to this community of faith with all the devotion your Lord can surely instill in you to grow more fully as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Bill

SUMMER FUN - CHURCH PICNIC
JULY 10  WALLACE FARM

STAFF MEMBER ON SABBATICAL

Save this date for a special treat - JULY 10.  Everyone is invited to the Wallace Farm after church for fried chicken and covered dish picnic lunch.  Drinks will be provided.  Bring your own bathing suit and fishing pole for family fun at the pond.  You have heard of the wonderful youth retreats at the Wallace Farm.  Now the adults have a chance to go.  The church bus will be available, but be sure and sign up early. Driving directions will be posted in the church bulletin.  Don't miss your chance at the WALLACE FARM !!!

Our Minister of Music Joe Kennedy has requested and our Staff-Parish Relations Committee has granted an extended leave for vacation and continuing education (American Guild of Organists Convention June 25-30) from June 19 (following the 11 am worship service) through July 31.  Substitute organists will lead our 11 am worship during his absence.  In approving his request to accommodate an extended family trip and continuing education opportunity the committee granted a “one time only” exception to the church’s vacation/continuing education policy which limits “time away” to no more than two consecutive Sundays.

All God’s Children Camp

STAGE CLEANING DAY

Mentors and transportation help are needed (men and women) to spend a week at camp with children (ages 7-11) of incarcerated mothers in an experience in Christian community sponsored by the Bishop’s Initiative on Children and Poverty.  Mentors do not lead activities but rather provide supervision and companionship.  A training day is provided on Saturday before the camp week.  A camp will be held for the first time this year at Camp Alta Mons August 7-12.  Application and more information available in the church office.  Transportation is also needed for childrens’ arrival/departure.  Call the church office if you can help.

We will have a day (long overdue!) to clear off the stage and dispose of unneeded items on Saturday, June 25. If you have something on the stage you wish to keep, please remove it before this date.

Whenever you change your email address, let the church office know.
