Lent begins with Ash Wednesday which comes forty days before Easter, not
counting Sundays, and ends on the Saturday before Easter. Sundays in Lent
are not counted because, like all other Sundays, they are “little Easters”
and days of Christian celebration. Lent is a period of repentance and
preparation for baptism and renewal of baptism into the Pashcal mystery.

+Lenten Prayer of Confession
God, we confess that all too often we leave you, we forget you, and
we ignore your presence in our lives. We are
grateful that you do not do the same with us. Help us keep our eyes
focused on the grand party awaiting us at
the end of this journey instead of getting sidetracked by the
details. In Jesus name we pray...Amen.

WE
WELCOME you to
morning worship at South Roanoke United Methodist Church. Our hope and
prayer is that all who enter here will find the welcoming fellowship of
God’s people, joyous worship inspired by the presence of the Holy Spirit,
the faithful preaching of God’s Word, and the challenge to go into the
world as bearers of God’s grace, love, and justice.
NEW
MEMBERS WILL BE RECEIVED
at our 10:30 a.m.
worship service on Sunday, March 28. If you would like to become a part of
our church family, please check “wish to join” in the red attendance book
by your name.
NEW
WINDOWS: Folks
are still buying windows in memory and honor of loved ones. To date we
have sold 49 windows. The cost of a window is $700.00, and a brass plate
will be placed on the window stating who it is given by and who it is
given for. Just make your tax deductible checks payable to SRUMC and place
them in the offering plate, or mail them to the church indicating they are
for a “window”. You better hurry to get the window you want. All of the
windows in the Wimmer classroom have been sold, three in the Pathfinders’
class have been sold, one in the Aldersgate class has been sold, and two
in the Wesley class have been sold. The AA group who has been such a vital
part of our outreach ministry is going to buy one in the Wesley class
where they meet. There are still a lot of windows available in the
children’s wing, as well as the music room. If music has been an important
part of your life at SRUMC you might want to buy a window there, or if you
have had children grow up in the church, one of the children’s Sunday
school rooms might be nice for you to buy.

MIRACLE OF MISSIONS RUMMAGE SALE
Spring is almost here
and it’s time to clean out our closets and attics for a good cause. On
Saturday, April 10th from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., South Roanoke UMC and
the Roanoke-Kisumu Sister City Committee will partner to host the Miracle
of Missions Rummage Sale. The proceeds from this sale will go to the
Kisumu Medical Fund which benefits 4 ministries in our sister city Kisumu,
Kenya. The fund provides medical supplies for the Agape Children’s Home,
the Salem Home, Kisumu Hospice, and the New Life Babies home. It has
helped save many lives in Kisumu since we first started the sales in 2002.
In February, 2008, Kenya was devastated by post-election violence. The
pharmacy in Kisumu that manages the Medical Fund was looted and burned and
we had no choice but to suspend this ministry. The success of this sale
will help us get the Kisumu Medical Fund up and running again at a new
pharmacy.
We need your help in
several ways to make this sale a success. First, you can donate household
items to the sale. We don’t have very much room to display clothes so
unfortunately, we can only take ones in good condition. We also can’t take
computers. Any items not sold the day of the sale will be donated to the
Rescue Mission that afternoon. Please bring donated items to the
Fellowship Hall Monday, April 5th through Thursday, April 8th between 8:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. If those times aren’t convenient for you, please let me
know and I can make other arrangements.
We also need help with
sorting and pricing the items prior to the sale. My favorite thing about
this sale is the fellowship of volunteers in the days leading up to the
sale. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to get to know each other better.
Finally, we need volunteers the day of the sale to help customers. Any
amount of time you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Please give
me a call if you have questions about the sale or would like to help.
Thank you so much for reaching out a hand to our brothers and sisters in
Kisumu.

BIBLE STUDY
Our Lenten Bible Study
Will continue through
Wednesday, March 31
We will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a light meal followed by the Bible study
at 6:30 p.m. We will end promptly at 7:30.
OUR
LENTEN BIBLE STUDY
Galatians:
The
Magna Carta of Christian Freedom
Our study will
focus on Paul’s letter to the Galatians on one of the most important
issues of our Christian faith: freedom.
What is the
relationship for the believer between grace and law or faith and works?
The understanding of this was so important to Paul that he felt that a
misunderstanding could lead to the weakening of the Gospel message. Come
and join us each week as we explore these six chapters of Galatians.
