Given *CHILDREN (ages 3 through 1st grade), may meet the acolyte to recess to Children’s Church. Please ask your child to line up behind the acolyte who will lead all children out together. After the worship service, parents must pick up their child in the Children’s Department; children will not be allowed to leave the room until their parents arrive. WELCOME! We’re glad to have all who have joined us for this time of worship. Especially to our guests and visitors, we welcome you to South Roanoke and to our fellowship. We invite those who have no church home to make South Roanoke your church and add your witness to ours. NEXT WEEK’S SERMON, At Home in God, will be based on Luke 9:51-62. Please read and study the text this week. SUMMER ORGAN RECITAL: Jon Johnson, a recent graduate of East Carolina State University, will present an organ recital in our church sanctuary TODAY at 4:00 p.m. This is part of the Summer Series sponsored by The American Guild of Organists. JOE KENNEDY is at the Worship and Music Conference at Lake Junaluska this week. In his absence we welcome Dr. Don Moe, retired professor of organ at Roanoke College, as our organist. We also welcome Jayne Vest, a well-known soloist throughout the Roanoke Valley and member of the Southview United Methodist Church Choir. PENNY HAYNES will be on vacation next week. Volunteers will be staffing the office. EACH YEAR FROM MOTHER’S DAY TO FATHER’S DAY, we are given the opportunity to contribute to the Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc. A gift of $68.00 to the Samaritan Offering adopts for one day a resident of a community of Virginia United Methodist Homes, Inc. whose personal resources are no longer adequate to meet the cost of care. Annually, churches, church organizations and individuals provide $225,000-$250,000 for residents who receive benevolent care. Make your donations today by making your check payable to SRUMC and earmarking it “Samaritan Offering”. CALLING ALL KIDS 1st grade through rising 7th grade for a Music, Art and Drama week, July 19-23! We will have fun as we produce a complete musical performance and play with boomwackers, handbells, learn movement and dance for the stage and make sets and decorations. Performances will be at Southview UMC on Friday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m., and South Roanoke UMC on Sunday, July 25 at 4:00 p.m. Contact Joe Kennedy for a registration form or other information. (Transportation may be available each day from SRUMC.) AN INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK THANK YOU This started out the easiest host week we’ve had in a while. I want to thank Terry Wilkinson for pulling double duty in planning meals for our host week while helping me prepare and conduct the “Mircle of Missions” rummage sale. God gave us a bit of a breather because we started the host week with no families in the network which almost never happens. We stayed “on call” until Thursday when we welcomed a family of 4. The following volunteers rallied and made them feel right at home. Please help me thank them for their commitment to this important ministry in our church. I want to especially thank Penny Haynes for working so hard to make sure the new air conditioner was up and running before the host week started. All of the groups who use the Youth House will appreciate her efforts in the hot months to come. I have one more host week in August as coordinator of IHN at SRUMC which makes me a bit sad. I’ve enjoyed being a part of this wonderful ministry over the past 5 years and I plan to continue volunteering for meals, hosting and overnights. Please pray that someone in our congregation will be moved to become our new coordinator so that our church will not have to leave the network. If you are considering this opportunity, please feel free to call me or Rev. Bill Davidson to ask questions and talk further about it. Thank you. -Diane D’Orazio
