DO YOUR CLOSETS AND GARAGES seem emptier now? I know mine do thanks to our annual yard/rummage sale to raise money for Kenyan missions. With the help of many volunteers, we sorted, priced, and sold thousands of items over two days. We raised over $3,650.00 which will go to ministries in Kisumu, Kenya that help women and children. Saying thank you doesn’t seem nearly adequate for all of the hard work and the donations our church members gave to make this such a success. It just keeps getting bigger and better! One of my favorite things about this sale is the fellowship shared by the volunteers the week before and during the sale. My good friend Jebet Kibogy who is from Eldoret, Kenya spent several days helping us prepare for the sale and she was overwhelmed that so many people would work so hard to help people they don’t even know. She took photos to send back home to her family to show them how we are trying to help their country. I want to share with you a thank you note she sent to our church members after the sale. She started by quoting scripture from Hebrews 6:10 NIV. “He will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” And she writes: “Dear South Roanoke UMC members, My name is Jebet Dolly Kibogy. I am from Eldoret, Kenya and I currently reside in Roanoke, VA. I am writing this note to sincerely THANK YOU for all the time, effort, and work you have put to raise money for my fellow countrymen. I cannot put it into many words except that from the bottom of my heart I am so grateful and thankful to you all. Regards, Jebet Dolly” When John and I go to Kenya next week, we will be taking the proceeds of the sale to the ministries who need this money so desperately. I will be honored to be representing South Roanoke United Methodist Church and we’ll be taking a small part of each of you with us in our hearts. Thank you.    - Diane D’Orazio

PLEASE SIGN UP on the bulletin board by the church parlor to serve as a greeter. There are still several Sundays open during the summer months. All that is required is to be at the front door 15-20 minutes before the start of worship. Please check your calendars and volunteer to be a greeter!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!  Special appreciation is expressed to Tanner Hall for designing and constructing the new church signs at the front of the church, and at the 24th street entrance. Tanner has included the United Methodist symbol in his design, and the signs are versatile enough to allow for time changes throughout the year. He also sanded and painted the old sign that was on 24th street and installed when the church was constructed in 1953. This sign is being stored at the youth house. This project was for Tanner’s Eagle Scout Project. We also would like to thank Mary Ellen Smith for her financial contribution that made this project possible.

THE CHILDREN (K-6TH GRADE)  of SRUMC are invited to join with Southview UMC for a very special M.A.D.—Music, Art, and Drama—week this summer.  THE NEXT ISSUE OF THE TOWER TIMES will be a July/August issue. Please send articles to Joe Kennedy, or email to joesrumc@aol.com by July 1.

THIS COMING WEEK Penny and Tim will be on vacation, and Joe will be attending a music conference at Lake Junaluska. Volunteers will be staffing the office during the week.
