Sally is filling in while Joe is attending a music conference at Lake Junaluska. Sally has been with us on many occasions, and it is always a pleasure to have her here. OUR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WILL BEGIN TOMORROW. If you have not yet registered your child, bring them tomorrow morning and sign up at the tables that will be stationed at the entrance to the church sanctuary. NEXT OPPORTUNITY FOR WORSHIP: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 7:00 P.M. CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SERVICE. The Vacation Bible School children will be leading the service. A potluck dinner will precede the worship service at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a dessert and a salad to share. Lemonade and hotdogs on the grill will be provided. NEXT WEEK’S SERMON, Facing Our Fears, will be based on Matthew 10:26-33. Please read and study the text this week. THE ROSE ON THE ALTAR is in honor of the birth of Parker Hardy Huffman, who was born Friday, June 14, to Jeff and Cameron Huffman. THE MARSTON FAMILY wishes to thank members of the congregation for the many visits, cards, calls, food and prayers during Colleen’s recent illness. Colleen is up and about and feeling much better now. ATTENTION!!!! We need to take care of our church property. Please do not park in the grass behind the kitchen. Stay on the blacktop. Thank you for your help in this matter. WITH MANY FAMILIES away from church due to vacations, picnics, or other family outings our contributions are usually down in the summer time. We hope that you will remember that the church expenses continue throughout the summer months, and that you will keep your pledge for 2002 current. If you are not sure where you stand in your contributions, please call Penny in the church office, 344-4437. NEW MEMBERS WILL BE RECEIVED ON JUNE 30 at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. If you would like to unite with South Roanoke United Methodist Church at this time, please speak to Amos as you leave today, or call the church office to make the necessary arrangements. OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE HAS BEGUN, and will continue through the last Sunday in August. During the summer we have two morning worship services; one at 9:00 and one at 11:00 a.m. Sunday school classes begin at their normal time of 9:45 a.m. REQUESTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS are now being taken. If you are a member of SRUMC, and have a student who will be attending college this fall and would like to apply for a scholarship, please come by the church office to pick up an application form. The deadline for requests to be turned in to the church office is July 1. DEADLINE FOR ARTICLES for the July/August combined issue of the Tower Times is July 1. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board by the church office if you would like to volunteer to teach the combined Sunday school classes for the summer. Classes are divided up with ages 4-1st grade and 2nd grade-5th grade. We need your help!! ON THURSDAY, JULY 11 the Adult Fellowship Group will travel to the P. Buckley Moss Museum and Flower Farm. They will leave at 8:00 a.m. and return around 5:30 p.m. There will be a narrated tour of the Moss museum at 10:00 (those not interested could go to the outlet mall next door.) Lunch will be at the Mossy Creek Cafe, and then on to the Day Lily farm of Andre Viette before returning to Roanoke. Sign up on the board by the church office if you would like to participate in this outing. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: At the end of broken dreams people need the Lord. COUNCIL ON MINISTRIES MEMBERS are asked to have their projected 2003 goals to Penny Haynes no later than July 12. You are asked to help us prepare for our Council on Ministries Planning Retreat, July 22-23, Fellowship Hall, 6:30-9:30 p.m., by meeting this time schedule. THE ROANOKE VALLEY INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK is in need of a nearly new refrigerator for the Family Center for guests to put their lunches in. If you have one to donate, please call 343-9982. ASP MISSIONARIES ARE STILL FOR RENT! The youth and adults who will be representing the church this summer as missionaries are offering their services to you, for a price... Our youth are raising money to help pay for this year’s ASP mission trip. In order to do this, the youth are willing to go to work for you.
