The Pastor’s Message

True Freedom.

One of the questions I am often asked as Pastor is, “What can I do to stop worrying so much?”  I believe the underlying desire in this question is the longing for the experience of freedom—freedom from anxiety and despair so that we can fully live life with meaning and joy.  Over and over again the issue that makes us the most anxious and causes us the most anxiety is money.  In our culture today there are few things that raise our passion or demand of us so much focus in our lives than this.

As a Christian you have the power through Jesus Christ to rise above despair and overcome this obsession by your own faithfulness in your personal stewardship of gifts.  The Scripture makes clear that the regular, systematic offering of a portion of the resources God has given you so reorders your priorities as to build real maturity in your spiritual life.  The very best way to overcome the power that money has over us is to give a portion of it back to God!

We are grateful to our Chair of Stewardship Frank Wheelock and his Campaign Steering Committee who lead us in our “People Giving to People” emphasis.  They are planning a wonderful event with a church-wide dinner after church on October 19.  You will want to put that on your calendar!

Your church invites you to claim again the true experience of freedom that faith in Jesus Christ brings.

Rev. Bill

AMINISTRY OF CARING FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL

Our family was so dearly blessed by your generosity when Thom was deployed to Afghanistan last year. I was especially overwhelmed with your help and support since we were brand new members. One of the shining gifts of our congregation is it's ability to warmly envelop members (and non members!) in a crisis or challenge.

We would like to "pay forward" your gift to us by creating a very simple mission project to support any military personnel that are related to members of the church, in the church, or even close neighbors or friends. We will occasionally post news about these brave folks in our church newsletter so we can all pray for them collectively, and we will send care packages to them as well.

We ask for your help in two ways:

 1. Send names and information about those serving in the military that you feel would benefit from our support.

 2. Let me know if you would be interested in helping send a care package to a soldier overseas sometime this year.

Please send that information to mgmburnett@cox.net, or call us at 540-400-0902.

Thanks again for being such a blessing to us,

The Burnett family: Thom, Michelle, Stella, Lucy, and Molly
