Kick Off Sunday

You are asked to read and study the text each week in preparation for worship.

As the Virginia Annual Conference prepares to gather in Hampton June 11-14 and Bishop Charlene Kammerer appoints me to my fourth year as your Senior Pastor I give thanks to God for the mission and ministry we share together.  This year has been a particularly fulfilling time for me as we have taken up the emphasis on “stewardship.”  The church has challenged us all to grow in faith through prayer and participation in keeping our promise to take seriously the stewardship of prayer and the stewardship of presence.  As we continue this emphasis this fall and winter through our stewardship of gifts and stewardship of service I am confident that our congregation will realize renewed and inspiring dedication in our discipleship.

You will want to put on your calendar our next joint worship service to be held on July 16.  This will be a 9 a.m. service only (no Sunday School or 11 a.m. service) followed by our annual church picnic!

I wish you a rich, full and restful summer.  We anticipate a good start to our fall program and look forward to “Kick Off Sunday” on September 10!

Rev. Bill

YOUTH NEWS

Youth For Hire:

The Youth are available to help with those projects around the house. If you need help cleaning, weeding, painting, mulching, mowing, etc. – for a donation to the Youth for Hire DCLA account we can be there to offer assistance in tackling those projects around the house.

Please give Paula a call to set up those projects. She can be reached at 344-4437 ext. 16 or 344-1105. Youth are being scheduled during weekends until school is out on the 15th of June. At that point, we may have weekday hours available.

 Youth For Hire Apology:

If you have called in the recent weeks and your projects have been delayed due to the end of the year youth programming, I want to apologize and thank you for your patience.  We are back in full swing and have four projects lined up in the next week.  Thank you for helping our youth with the summer plans and remember to give us a call to help with those household projects.

 Flamingo Fundraiser:

The Flamingos are back and will land beginning June 15th  Our Flamingo Fundraiser helps our group attend Jubilee at an affordable cost.  During the summer months, you may see a lovely set of flamingos in your yard.  To have these removed, the youth ask for a donation to the Jubilee travel fund and a destination for the flamingo’s next site.  Removal instructions will be attached to each set of flamingos.

The Jubilee Project allows our SRUMC Youth to participate in construction and community projects for the impoverished community of Sneedville, Tennessee.  Because of the generosity of so many, last year we were able to send 9 adults and 17 youth for a week of service. THANK YOU!!

Flamingo Insurance:

For those of you who would rather the flamingos miss your house but would still like to contribute to the Jubilee fund, this year for the first time, we will offer flamingo insurance.  With the purchase of this insurance, flamingos will avoid landing in your yard in 2006.  Insurance cost is a donation of at least $40.00, to the Jubilee youth fund.  Insurance purchases will be earmarked for youth scholarship funds, which will allow additional youth to participate in this service project.  As the fundraiser begins June 15th, you will want to purchase this insurance as soon as possible.  Thank you for your support of the Youth program.

JUBILEE MEETING: is scheduled for June 11th after the 11:00 a.m. service.  Please plan to attend this meeting if you are planning to participate in this year’s service project.  JUBILEE dates are July 30th – August 5th  You can participate in a full week or partial week projects.  As you know, this year presents a special challenge, as I will be 7½ months pregnant.  The youth and I will appreciate all the help we can get.  Youth must have completed the 7th grade in order to participate.  Thank you and hope to see you there.

If you have any questions, please call Paula at 344-4437 ext. 16, or 344-1105 (home)
