I hope that we see a lot of you this program year. Youth Praise Band will begin this September. We are blessed to have so many talented youth within our group. I am hoping the same group of guitarists and our drummer will plan to be back. We do need some singers to accompany them. If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible. We will have a Youth worker meeting Sunday the 11th after 11:00 a.m. worship. Please plan to attend, as we will need to discuss the evening activities. There will be lunch provided and a nursery worker available to you. Youth Kick Off is September 11th with a Parent’s meeting @ 5:00 during the Jr. High group meeting. Please mark your calendar for September 25th, 2005. We look forward to seeing you there. More information to follow in the Youth Newsletter. PUMPKIN PATCH is happening again this October (yeah!). We will need lots of help Wednesday, October 5th, at 4:00 p.m. to unload pumpkins. This is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. Please plan to be with us to help unload the truck. Planning Ahead: Finally, This October 1st will mark my year anniversary at SRUMC. I want to say that I have loved working with the Youth and the Church members this year. We will start the fall with a trip to the Artisans Center of Virginia.
Located in Waynesboro, ACV is designated as the official state artisans
center by the Virginia Legislature. The center is dedicated to the work
of Virginia artisans to provide education and to preserve and perpetuate
an awareness of craft and its cultural contribution. |
Our Church has a wonderful way to cooperate in service to our community.
Whether from the budget or Lenten offering, a fund is set aside for
special projects or emergent needs as served by organizations such as
CHIP (Child Health), RAM (homeless, jobless, or Meals on Wheels (service
to the elderly).

GIRL SCOUT NEWS Girl Scout troop 686 is in need of a leader. This is a Junior troop with approximately 20 girls. I would hate for this troop to disband. If anyone is interested please call Kathy Cain at 345-0484. Katherine Witt has recently completed the requirements for the Gold Award. This award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn in scouting. She will actually receive the Gold Award in a ceremony at a later date. Katherine’s project was to plan and then lead a mural retreat with the senior high youth from Trinity United Methodist Church. Katherine met with the youth several times beforehand. The over night retreat included group-building activities as well as the creation of a mural. The mural was painted by the youth on the wall of their youth room. The financing for this project came from several sources. Primary funding was through a Virginia Conference Youth Service Fund grant. Katherine also received financial assistance from SRUMC to refurbish the youth room. Additional funds were donated through SRUMY for Trinity youth T-shirts. Special thanks to Tim Dayton, project advisor, and Susan Witt, mom and scout leader. Without their help this project would have not been possible |
