ANNOUNCEMENTS

GUESTS and VISITORS are welcome to join us at South Roanoke for worship and fellowship. We invite those who have no church home to make South Roanoke your church and add your witness to ours.  And for a modern worship experience, join us each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. for our contemporary service.

PLEASE SEND ARTICLES for the March issue of the Tower Times by February 15 to Joe Kennedy, or email to joesrumc@aol.com. Articles can be sent at any time prior to the deadline.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, February 8. See insert for more details.

SOUTH ROANOKE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH DINNER GROUPS are a fun and delicious way to get to know members of your church family better. New groups for the first session for 2005 (February through August) will be formed soon. Please contact Dawn Long at 989-2837 by February 8 to join a group or to change your status.

THE SEASON OF LENT is the perfect time for South Roanoke Church to lift up the first two of our “Ministry Priorities” for 2005: Membership Involvement and Spiritual Formation and Growth for All Ages. The two top priorities of our congregation this year call us to deeper discipleship. SERMON SERIES ON DISCIPLESHIP begins today:
  Discipleship:  a Reordered Life

Sermon Series February 6, 13, and 20
Making Disciples: an Invitation to Life

Sermon Series February 27, March 6 and 13
Lent is also a time to take up the discipline of prayer. Make a special effort this season to participate in our regular opportunities for prayer on Wednesdays:
  MORNING PRAYER
  Wednesdays 7:30-7:50 a.m.
in the parlor
  MIDDAY PRAYER
  Wednesdays 12 noon-12:20 p.m.
in the parlor

THERE WILL BE a meeting of the Administrative Board on Sunday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Terry Wimmer Classroom.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES are now being sold. If you would like to purchase any, please see one of our Girl Scout leaders. Some of those include: Kathy Cain, Barbara Barbour and Barbara Duerk.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MEAL PREPARATION AND OVERNIGHT STAYS. SRUMC is the support church for 1st Presbyterian as they host the Interfaith Hospitality Network the week of February 13th through 19th. The Interfaith Hospitality Network provides temporary housing and meals to families in need in the Roanoke Valley. Those interested in helping out please contact Jeff Huffman at 772-6912 for overnights and Ellie Clark at 721-3340 for meals.

THE SRUMC PRESCHOOL NEEDS YOU! We are currently seeking 2 to 3 church members to serve on the Preschool committee. If you are interested, please contact Heidi Christopher at 774-3672.

THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE will NOT meet in February. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Wimmer classroom.

SOUTH ROANOKE UNITED METHODIST PRESCHOOL/MOTHERS’ DAY OUT 2005-2006 CLASS REGISTRATION: Registration for our current students, their family members, and our church members has begun. We will have a closed registration for these individuals until February 10th at which time our registration will open to the general public. After the 10th, open registrations will be accepted. This time frame will allow our current students and church members to have the best choices and opportunity to sign up for classes. We will have a waiting list for any classes that fill-up and registration will continue until all spots are filled. Registration forms are available in the Preschool office and on the church bulletin board.

DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER THE PAST TWO SUNDAYS THE FOLLOWING EVENTS HAVE EITHER BEEN CANCELLED OR WILL BE RESCHEDULED: the Sweetheart Dinner has been cancelled. Healthy Congregations Workshop and Scout Sunday will be rescheduled in the Spring.

May 16-19, 2005 (tentative) to St. Simon Island, Ga (Wesley Museum, Georgia Conference Center “Epworth by the Sea,” and Bob Garner on the Wesley’s) Cost approx $100/day ($400). Call Romona Williams, 774-6568 or Joe Kennedy, 344-4437 if you are interested.

IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE HEARING IN THE SANCTUARY please take advantage of our “personal receivers” that pick up the audio signal from our sanctuary sound system. Each unit has a personal earpiece. They are available in the “ushers’ drawer” in the narthex or you may ask any usher to assist you in its use for the worship service. Please remember to return them to the ushers following the service.

THE ALDERSGATE SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS welcomes all adults who are interested in Christian fellowship and lively discussion on a number of contemporary topics. Lessons this fall will be centered around the book, What Do Other Faiths Believe? by Paul Stroble. This is an extension of the presentations made by representatives from other faiths during the Sunday School hour throughout August. Plans are being made for our annual Christmas progressive dinner of Friday December 31. Please join us in the room above the kitchen each Sunday morning!

IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN TOUCH with what’s happening at the church, please keep your email address up-to-date. Check the booklet in the narthex to see if we have your correct email address. If not, please write down the correct one. That way you will be able to keep up with everything that is happening at South Roanoke Church. DON’T FORGET! Whenever you change your email address, let the church office know.
