Sunday before last, I mentioned to you during the worship service that copies of The Upper Room were available in the Narthex. You see, I have a growing feeling that in our pressurized pattern of living that we need God’s direction and power. This little booklet of daily devotions will help us to think on the things of God and how He can help us as we face the practical issues of life. I find it providential that within several days of reading the devotional for a given day that things usually happen in my life which bring to mind this reading. A disciplined devotional life is one way God enables us to grow in His Grace. Lester Weatherhead writes, “It is almost impossible to exaggerate the importance of the last thoughts at night and the first thoughts in the morning.
|
Our fathers and mothers , who taught us to say our prayers night and morning, were wiser psychologists that they knew. The ideas that are dominant in the mind when the mind is quiescent are the most determining ideas of the personality.” The season of Advent, December 1-24, is a time of preparation for the coming of our Lord. Let me urge you to spend some time in the “Upper Room”, Seek God’s way for your life in Christ. After all, this is the meaning of Christmas!
Yours in Christ,

Advent Angels Are Here! The Advent Angel tree is up! The Angel gifts are due back by Sunday, December 8. Remember, one gift only please for the Angels on the tree. If you wish to do more, please adopt more than one angel, or for those who can go the extra mile – we have 35+ angels who are very needy – whose family situations are the most precarious. For these angels we ask the adoptive parents to purchase clothing, a coat, underwear, toys, etc. Each of these angels will require and expenditure of $150 or more. These angels are not on the tree. If you can help with one of these special children, call Terry Wilkinson (772-0490) or Dawn Long (989-2837). Again this year, most of our angels are the children from the Henry Fork Service Center in Franklin County. As always, please wrap each gift and place a post-it note with the angel’s name, number, and the contents of the box on your gift. These will be removed later at Henry Fork. If you cannot shop, but would like to help, just write an check to the church and mark it Advent Angels and we will gladly shop for you. |
